UBC Lifespan x Toastmasters Movie Night

Last Thursday, the Lifespan Society of BC hosted our first social event on UBC campus in collaboration with UBC Toastmasters, a public-speaking club on campus. Thank you UBC Toastmasters and everyone who showed up for the event for this opportunity to showcase our non-profit organisation on UBC campus.

During our event, we screened the DW documentary, Decoding the secret of aging, that won Best Science Film for the Prague International Film Festival 2022. After the screening of this opportunity, all participants got the chance to contribute their thoughts by giving a 2-minute Impromptu Speech on one of five questions that we had prepared beforehand. The student perspectives provided were insightful, and we at Lifespan Society of BC also received a chance to educate students about why Lifespan is important.

We were unfortunately unable to take pictures at the event due to attendees’ desire for privacy.

We decided to collaborate with Toastmasters UBC so that students could challenge themselves to engage in an intellectual discussion about Lifespan, as well as broaden their perspectives. It was a great chance to socialise with a community of intelligent youth who were willing to learn and share their experiences on this topic.

We hope to host more future events at UBC so that we can educate UBC students about longevity and lifespan in a non-biased and scientific way. We want to remove the stigma associated with lifespan so that we can show students how to and why improving their health and well-being is beneficial for their lifespan in the long-term. Longevity isn't just about extending life, it's about having a healthy lifespan. It's about making conscious choices starting now to enrich our lives in a fulfilling way.
